I am going to have the TH350 in my Nova rebuilt, I can get the rebuild kit for around $100. I was thinking about grabbing a manual and tackeling the job myself, because I don't have any experience with automatics. I want to see how they work, and what better way than to tear one apart and rebuild it? Are there any special tools I will need or any secrets I should know about? Also, where would be a good place to find a how-to on it? If anyone can help, I would appreciate it.

Thanks

Daniel

What kind of condition is it in? Maybe I'll just buy it from you or something. If I can find one that works without slipping, I would rather buy that than rebuild mine. I am slowly collecting parts for a 4 speed conversion, so I don't want to spend a ton on the automatic transmission stuff. Let me know, maybe we can work something out.

Thanks

I did my own 700R4, which is more difficult than the TH350, just by reading a book. Having said that, yes it was a pain in the butt, and yes there were some special tools I needed.

If you insist on tackling it yourself, I would say to get a good book, pay close attention to detail, and tackle the entire rebuild when you can keep at it until your done. This is not something you want to do for a few hours on the weekends. You will inevitably "forget how something went" and either assemble it incorrectly or be stuck seeking assistance. Do the whole rebuild start to finish in as short a period of time as you can manage.

I got lucky and my 700R4 worked the first time.

A friend of mine had to take his TH350 out 3 times to get it right.

All it takes is one seal in backwards and your screwed.

If your still interested then be prepared to make or buy a few things, such as spring compressors, snap ring pliers of various size, feeler gages, and a bushing installer/remover tool. Whatever book you buy should give you more specifics about the tools you'll need.
