A co-worker is helping his freind build a rock crawler out of a 2wd truck. It has a 700r4 trans and he wants to swap it for a th350. Is there a specific th350 that would have to be used with the transfer case? Or can we just swap my th350 for his 700r4? My th350 is in my v8 2wd Luv at the moment.

th output shafts may be different, different sizes and splines. the lenght of the autput shaft on a th350 comes in like two or three different sizes. short and mid length. mid length has a 9 inch snout, and the shorty's are like 1-2 inches.

when i think of a chevy rock crawling transmission, i think muncie sm465. if you're gonna use a th350 make sure to protect it well. autos don't like being drug over rocks ;)

I'll throw in my 2-cents of what little I know, maybe it'll help you. The th350 has two different types of tails basically, the "long" tail and the one with the square end. The square end one is the one thats already made to bolt up to a T-case for a 4x4 application. I think you can convert the long tail type over to fit up to a T-case by changing out the end and output shaft (like freebie said). Personally, I would think it would be easier just to get one made for the 4x4 instead of converting it over, but if you're good with trannys (which I'm not) then you might be able to do it yourself and save a few bucks while getting to use the tranny you already have.

you could also get a divorce mounted transfer case, no worries about output shafts there :)
