In my search for a new motor for my luv, I have found that from 400hp-460hp, these motors are going for $2200 to $3500. That's $1300 difference!! we are talking a couple or 3 months difference in how long it takes to save up. That's a couple or 3 months difference in when I can drive my truck again. Just tonight I found a 400hp 383 for $2200. I have found 440hp 355's for $2600 to $2800. 420hp for $3500. So what is a fair price?

it's really hard to say without having a list of everything thats in there i mean brand names and preferably part numbers too. the difference in the motor prices could be due to Hypuretectic pistons vs forged pistons, roller cam vs. solid cam, mild porting vs. race porting. iron heads vs. aluminum heads.etc. etc. any of those things could account for the higher $$ amount.

there are too many variables in a motor to just go by hp numbers. Get a break donw of the motors then you can tell if its worth it or not.

With a LUV anything over 200 hp is "enough" I personally have 310hp in my sbc, but its all about bragging rights and cost, which is causing me to want the 430-470hp range  . But as the others have said, its all about how the motor is built and whats in it. You can get a cheap 450hp that will go out in a year or two even with regular / very good maint.. (<cant spell it right now :?: ) or you could/should invest in a well built motor with parts that will last with the power. I have been running a p.o.s. gm 350 valves knock, exhaust leaks, tranny leaks, but u know what.... nothing in my town will beat it in a race or a burnout contest.

I have done some research on this place and everything seems solid. I read some of their feedback and emailed another guy that bought a motor from them. What he said about them and his motor, was solid. Hal698 checked out the warranty and it's solid(as long as you don't race it,ssshhhh we don't have to tell anyone  ). I'm going with it. I'm about halfway there with my savings so it won't be to much longer and I can brag about how much faster my truck is now  .
By the way, what is the difference between a shift improver kit and a trans pak?

Hey 355,
I didn't say as long as you don't race it, I was saying basicly the same thing everybody else is. You really don't know what you've got unless you put it together. I would say that the people that are selling that engine are building so many that they get their parts for a lot less than anyone of us can. They advertise 12 month written warranty. I would suggest you read the fine print. As far as me saying not to race. 358, 11.7 to 1 Brodix 208 heads pink rods Scat crank Lunati cam and lifters 5:10 lift Crane stud girdle Victor Jr. is going into my truck. Also when we were talking your engine had just blown up, and I mentioned that if you are racing it all time, ie turning a 400 small block 6500 rpms to get your 440 h.p. it may not stay together as long as you would like.

OH FORGET THAT, I wanna feel the power!!!! Anyone have a good idea for a cam that would give me brute off the line power with some midrange strength also??? I mean, I rarely push my 350 past 4k....
