So my daily driver is a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer ES.
My AC has stopped working. I bought a recharge bottle with the gauge. My understaning, is you run the car, turn on the fan on high, and the temp setting all the way to cold. Then hook up the hose on the recharge can to the LOW valve. When I hook it up, my gauge stays in the RED Zane and the needle does't move. If its in the red, in general its an overcharged reading. A mechanic friend of mine says it could be a restriction in the system, but he doesn't have the tools at his place to check it.
Any one else had this problem on their car?

What you're doing is correct. You didn't mention it, but the a/c should be switched on as well.

First question: Does the compressor engage at all?

Next question: That car should have an electric fan on the condenser. If it doesn't come on, it can cause a high pressure symptom. In that case though, it would blow hot while sitting still and cold when you're travelling on the road.

Could be a restriction in the system, but without knowing what the pressure is on both sides it's hard to diagnose.

I did forget to mention it, but I did have the A/C turned on (good point though).
How I tell if the Compressor engages? I can see the belt hooked up to it, and that's turning.

I'll have to check on the fan on the condenser, but I do get hot air blowing if car sit stationary or traveling on the road.

The belt will be running, but the most front end piece will be stopped when the compressor is not running. If the whole assembly is turning, then the compressor is running.
