Bunch of stuff showed up today. Ordering spindles and the disc brake conversion stuff next week. Going to Pull a Part tomorrow to pick over some Explorers for a 8.8 disc rear assembly and an extra driver side axle. It's supposed to be 60° and sunny.

I also picked up something to make life a little easier. I've been running my air tools off a little 1.7hp oilless compressor for too long... Maybe this one can keep up a little better.

That should keep up real well! Ingersoll rand brand?

Yessir. I'm hoping to also be able to inflate a bicycle tire.

Yeah it should do a bike tire, maybe two... a second...

Make an offer. :ebiggrin

Shipping might be a little steep.

It's actually a pretty low mile Jasper motor. I can't remember if I said that in any of my previous posts about it... But the prior owner got the oil changed at WalMart and they didn't tighten the drain plug fully. It sat up over the weekend and his wife drove it to work the next week. Motor locked up so WalMart paid to have a reman put in. They drove it like that for about 6 months and started having carb problems and parked it.

I'm antsy to get the 5.0 in there too. Got a lot of work to do first though.

You have a good plane stock appearing , safe driving mild hotrod . I have more fun driving the mellow one vs the wild ones .

Yes. That's what I'm going for. Modern technology in a stock appearing old car. Once everything is together, it'll be a lot of fun to drive for a very long time.

I didn't get near as much done this weekend as I hoped. I pulled the cover off my breaker box to wire in my new compressor and discovered it was full. Fuller than full. Every single spot was already occupied with tandem breakers so there was no space to be saved. To Lowe's to get a bigger box... That took up most of Saturday. Slept in today and finally got motivated around 3 this afternoon to do something. Pulled the rear out and cleaned up and ran out of daylight.

I found a disc brake 8.8 out of a 98 explorer local on CL already removed for about what Pull a Part wants. Still need to go up there and get a driver side axle out of another one.

Hopefully next weekend will be more productive.

The local rear end was gone, so went to pull a part Saturday and got a 3.73 posi 8.8 with discs. Got an extra short side axle and hauled it home.

Parts are still trickling in. Should have the rest of the brake conversion stuff by Friday and have plenty to keep me busy for a few weekends after.

Ordering these wheels in a couple of weeks so I can get it off the jackstands when the suspension and rear stuff is done. Then hopefully I'm done with the expensive stuff for a while.

I thought I posted this, but didn't see where I did.

The front brakes and spindles are the 99-05 mustang style. Floating dual piston calipers.

I'm still looking for someone to narrow my rear. Called a couple of speed shops and haven't been pleased with the responses so far. I found a guy about 40 miles away who said he's do it for $150 but was hoping to spend a little less.

Productive weekend. Got all the front suspension out and off to the side for reference. I've got 2 long weekends coming up so I hope to get all the new stuff in before the first of the year. Still need to clean the wheel wells and shock towers while access is easy...

Still have to clean up the explorer rear and take it to my guy to get narrowed. Hope to have it back on the ground and rolling by the middle of January.

Got to take my son to Nashville tomorrow to see his mother so that's it for this weekend.

Got the wire wheels and cups and wire brushes and all out today and cleaned up the wheel wells as much as I could. After much grinding and brushing and blowing and repeating I was reasonably satisfied that the POR 15 would have a decent base.

As per the instructions, I sprayed the area with marine clean, and then with metal ready and allowed it to dry for about an hour. It was dry to the touch, but I went back with compressed air and a brush again to make certain that all the loose and flaky bits were gone. There was some old rust coating that came off pretty easily, but was really stubborn in a few places. After it was evident that it wasn't coming off without days of grinding, I decided that the stubborn layers were just another layer of protection.

I'm really satisfied with the finished product. I'll also be doing the whole undercarriage, the interior floor, and the trunk with this stuff once I get it back on the ground. It's pricey, but an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, right?

Not much going on with this lately. Finished the front suspension. Still need to fit the new brakes hardware to it. Almost ready to send the 8.8 to the guy to narrow it. Then some body work and off to paint. Hopefully by the end of summer. Might be ready to drive next year.

I've also been looking on CL for another LUV. I've got a 350 roller cam vortec block on the stand I need to find a home for. They're getting hard to find around here in good shape. Taking my time and waiting for the right one. It'll be a while before I have time for another project.

So I've actually accomplished quite a bit since I last posted about this. The new front end is all in place minus the new brakes. I got a 3.73 limited slip 8.8 with disc brakes out of a later model Explorer and got it narrowed.

I bought a 96 F150 with a 5.0 and a 4R70W auto transmission for $200. Took the motor and trans and wiring harness out and scrapped the rest. Gonna go through the motor and trans and freshen them up soon.

The bad news: several weeks ago I went to bed on a Saturday night feeling fine. 3 hours later I woke up in agony. Long story short I went to the ER. Ended up having surgery due to an obstruction in my small intestine. Surgery didn't go too well and I ended up in ICU for several days. Anyway I'm fine now I guess but I can't do much of anything for another month or so. My short-term disability pays a whopping $96 a week so everything is pretty much on the back burner now.

I guess on the bright side it'll be nice and cool when I can get back to work on this...
