I've been hounding this guy for years trying to buy this car. Finally talked him out of it and picked it up this afternoon.

1966 Mustang. Inline 6, auto trans. Stock except for aftermarket a/c. The body is completely straight with very little rust. Bumpers are both straight. Everything is there. It was running when he parked it about 5 years ago.

I bought an EFI 1995 F150 a while back in anticipation of this project. Going to go the Mustang II front suspension route.

For now, it's got a nice warm spot in the garage. Got some parts I need to accumulate before I do anything. Gonna try to get it running again the way it is and ride it around the block a little.

Just crappy cell phone pics for now...

Some better pics from its previous home... You may notice the LUV in the garage... I let him keep the mustang at the house I lived in a few years ago. That's the LUV I sold to mytmouz. When we moved out of that place, he towed it to a storage place and it's been there for the past 2 1/2 years.

I didn't know you moved, I almost swung by there a few weeks ago but was pressed for time. Awkward...

I was renting that place and the landlady got greedy and thought she could sell it. Wouldn't renew the lease. She ended up getting foreclosed on.

I bought the house at the end of that street. It's not THAT much further to drive. :ebiggrin

I'm not blue oval guy but I love the early mustangs, good looking car sounds like it should be a nice project, planning to keep it fairly original?
sounds like that f150 motor may be going in?

Correct. Doing the resto-mod thing. EFI 5.0 and T5 transmission. Going for stock appearance externally though.

Should be a sweet rig. At least a newer 5.0 is still along the same lineage as the older sbf it could have had
Paint plans?

Somehow I got some weird information in my brain. I guess years ago when I first started thinking about this car I tinkered with the idea of putting a modular motor in and that got me thinking about the Mustang II setup and over the years this marinated in my mind and became "SBF won't fit in a 6 cylinder early mustang without major changes."

Anyway... Fresh research yields fresh plans.

I ordered all new front suspension parts today.

Two upper control arms
Two lower control arms
Two shock tower bumpers
Two coil spring saddles
Two coil spring insulators
Two coil springs
Front sway bar with bushings
Two front sway bar end links
Two inner tie rods
Two outer tie rods
Two tie rod sleeves
Idler arm
Strut rod bushing kit
Tie rod end sleeves
Center link
Pitman arm

The previous owner wasn't big on maintenance. I doubt the front end has been aligned in 20 years. Figured I'd just get it all done at once and avoid surprises.

Next up is a pair of v8 spindles and a disc brake upgrade kit.

Later down the road I need to find a proper rear end. For now I have enough to keep me busy...

So is National Parts Depot on your favorites now?

Haven't come across that one yet. These all were ordered from cjponyparts.com. Big Black Friday sale going on right now. :)

Now I gotta look up National Parts Depot.

LOL, I ordered a lower driver seat frame from CJ's Sunday myself. (I got 65 mustang seats going in the LUV, the driver seat was NOT as described)...

Yeah I saw the pics. Looks like it's coming along nicely. I bet you're ready to drive it.

Having a vehicle that they actually make new parts for would be a nice change. 8)

I've had plenty of those since I got my license [in 1971 lol] It's the exact reason I'm working on the Luv instead. At least I can point out the engine when the hood is up....

A blue 1965 was my first car . A kid from school's dad bought it for him and he hurt the motor $250 and a 75' torino wagon 351 and it was good to go . Fun car , fond memories.

Bunch of stuff showed up today. Ordering spindles and the disc brake conversion stuff next week. Going to Pull a Part tomorrow to pick over some Explorers for a 8.8 disc rear assembly and an extra driver side axle. It's supposed to be 60° and sunny.

I also picked up something to make life a little easier. I've been running my air tools off a little 1.7hp oilless compressor for too long... Maybe this one can keep up a little better.
