I have just bought my Luv and it has a Holley dual feed double pumper 650. I have never had a Holley, and it is spitting and sputtering at cruising speeds. Mash it to the floor and it runs great. Any help on how to tune this thing would be great.

sounds like to me you have a lean condition at "tip in " the position where you get off the idle curcits and on the main jets. you may try to turn your idle screews to make it rich at idle or for a better fix just go up 1 jet size in the front of the carb.

your needle might be stuck. (the one that lets gas in the carb bowl)
it is the screw/nut on the top.
you can get a holley maintenence guide at pep boys or out of summit that will tell you how to do stuff to the holley.
that would be my first suggestion.

it might have a blown power valve.that will make it run way to rich at idle and cruise.

Well, I got my book a couple of days ago. I gotta tell you, it sucks!! I can, by god, take it apart and rebuild it but it still didn't tell me anything about tuning it. Now I guess I will start with the first reply and start replacing stuff till its right. Anymore suggestions? Thanks guys for your help.

Got out today and said to hell with it and started turning screws on my carb. Didn't think I was doing much until I drove it down the road. Now it cruises pretty good, but has a slight bog and does it's spitting and popping on a hard acceleration. Wide open is still fine except for the slight bog. I think I'm on the right track. Just trial and error now I guess.

A fairly hot 350. It's .030 over, 9.5 compression, 882 heads, huge cam(not sure of the lift), sounds like it's as big as my arm ,headers. you are the second person that has said that. I got out today and turned every screw that I could find, and still couldn't get rid of it. It got a little better but the bog just got worse. I guess I will change out the jets. My book will come in handy after all  Thank you for the help.

sound like busted power valve try bumping timing up to see if that helps make sure you don;t have vacum leak put your hand over top of carb and see if it idles better while running i put a power vavle block on mine and stepped up the jets screw in adjustment screw see if it will kill engine then back out 1 1/2 turns on driverside and 13/4 on pass side

I screwed them all the way in and it did die. Not real sure bout the turns back out. I just turned them some and would drive it. It's real hard to hear it just running, and the cam is so big it's almost impossible to hear it idling. I may try a power valve first it seems to be the easiest to put on

the power valve is in front you need to put vacum gauge on engine and put in gear and see what kind of vacum you have then go two below that like if it is 12.o vacum go with a 10.o power valve ps check for vacum leaks, hope this helps

check your accelerator pump to see if it is working and adjusted properly. that could be causing the bog. might need some diferent size squirters.

I e-mail Holley last weekend and they mailed me back yesterday. They gave me an incredible amount of info. Much more than that cheesy book. He told me step by step of how to completely tune everything. :D So I am going to run through the whole list of things to do if that doesn't work, then I will start replacing parts.

Ok maybe I'm having a brain fart, but can I check my vacuum for the power valve with the port on the carb that my vacuum advance for my dist hooks up to? I have totally adjusted everthing tat needed it. Floats, acc. pumps, idle screws....... I am thinking power valve, but with my brain fart I'm not sure if I'm getting the right vacuum.

Ok so my book I ordered is shit :x . Is the power valve located behind the primary fuel bowl? My book about halfway tells me how to change it, nothing on where it is.

yes it is you have to pull the fuel bowl off it is located in the bottom center of the metering block which is also removable.

Got out today and changed the power valve. Now the bowl won't fill back up so it will idle. Could my float be stuck? I gotta fix this tomorrow, got family coming down to watch the race tomorrow night. That's the way my luck goes, try to fix 1 problem and create another

I must have gotten the wrong vavle somehow. I played with it for an hour this morning finally changed back to my old valve and I'm back to where I was. Still trying to figure out how I pulled the wrong vacuum. This is starting to get a little aggravating.
