So I needed brakes on my 97 f 250. It also needed new rotors. I chose ceramic ($70) pads because they are not supposed to squeak, are very low dust, last a long time, and not supposed to wear out the rotors.
All that seems to be true. But when I have the camper and trailer on, they fade away. Pretty scary! I, even in the big rigs, have never really had brakes fade away on my like this. (Well one time in a rig now that I think about it. That was scary too.)

After installing them I have read that they might do this with heavy loads. THEN WHY DO THEY SELL THEM FOR 3/4 TON TRUCK???

I also have them on the front of my wife's car, and those are great.

Do any of you have any comments about ceramic pads?

At Cal Trans we just used the dealer pads and never had issues with our trucks in the Canyons. I will say the 1 ton and 3/4 ton trucks with the small rock plows MAY be over weight, well I think, well possibly, sometimes.............

I haven't had good luck with switching a vehicle to ceramic pads. I had the same problems you describe in all cases so far, even when upgrading the rotors to match. I just assumed that since it wasn't designed for it from the factory, there's not enough ventilation to shed off the heat.

I have ceramic pads on all four corners of my girlfriends car and im a fan of them so far havent had any issues with fading, i have a set of them for my front discs in the luv to go with the new drilled and slotted rotors. Hopefully they do well

I put the drilled and slotted rotors on my 2000 F 250 with the ceramics and have had good luck . There is a break in process for the pads that has to be followed , but mine are so far so good . All i tow is the 24' enclosed trailer .

Well I think I'm going to replace the hoses first. They are the originals and might be stretching. I just installed new OEM rotors with these pads, so If it's a heat build up problem, I will just replace the pads with the semi metallic pads I have used successfully before.

Oh, and the ceramics have been on there for more than 6 months, so they are definitely broke in. The first time they faded on me was with my trailer only last July. I have no issues to and from work with the truck only. It's only with the added weight of camper and or trailer on board.

You might try http://www.bakerprecision.com/ in Signal Hill, CA they have a lot of the different braided steel lines already made up, and they are reasonable on price.

about a month ago, Pep Boys gave me a full refund on the pads, towards a set of new OEM pads. Truck stops perfectly now.
