so, since the truck is still giving me issues and i don't really want to risk having an accident.

so, i've been looking at some form of transportation to get me to work and back and around town. namely a motorcycle.

but, since having purchased my last motorcycle, i've wanted to know more about buying and inspecting one.

i have my eye on an 80 honda CB750. it has 14,000 miles, but it looks like it's in good shape. (i will be able to see it later in the week)

beyond a compression test, what should i look at? anything specific to the honda that i should keep in mind? i know about tires, and electrical, but other than that, what should i check?

Other than the obvious things, like does it run & shift well, I'd check the wheels, chain, and sprockets. Are the wheels true? Is the chain stretched? And are the sprockets worn? None of this is a deal-breaker but it can be added cost.

Remember bikes are like cars, after a certain amount of timen repairs are not enough, they need to be restored.

true but at 14,000 miles that bike still has plenty of life left in it.
my uncle has a chopper with a hopped up honda 750 engine in it, hauls ass.
just remember to change the oil often, motorcycles run through oil faster.

i have had a couple cb's, good bikes, that 1 looks from the pic like its been taken care of. 1 thing i have found is that if they sit too long the front caliper locks up and about the only way to fix it is get a new 1. that and the carbs are a bear to get off and back on if you need to do any work to them. beyond that i would definately own another 1 if i had the chance.

yeah, he was asking 700 for it. i can usually find something in relatively good shape for less than 1k, but right now, because of the economy and other factors, people are getting greedy with their stuff.

Man, you shoulda bought the bike I sold a couple months ago. It was a 1980 Honda CX500 Custom. It ran good; had about 12,000 miles on it. I got a Ninja to get to school instead. Sold it to my neighbor for $750...... Bummer... :?

Oh well, I'm sure you'll find something.
