I'm might go look at a 98 Volvo V70 wagon, that is for sale. It's the 2.4, 5 cyl., turbo, auto trans.
Good? Bad? Brake down much? What do know about these cars? It has 176k on it. The price will be below blue book, but I don't want an unreliable car. Thanks.

ron, i've been at o'reilly's for a little under a year now, and only ONCE have i ever been asked to look up parts that weren't regular maintenance stuff.

i dunno if that speaks to it's reliability, but it's like any other car. maintenance and condition are going to be apparent.

if in doubt, ask the seller to let you take it to your mechanic. Im sure your mechanic will find something wrong with it (they always do, it's their job) but so long as it's nothing major, i don't see it being a bad vehicle.

if the seller won't let you get it inspected, that's a red flag in my book. i'd walk away.

if nothing else, just do a quick compression test and check all the fluids and see/smell the kind of condition they are in.

with almost EVERY car i've ever purchased, i've always been able to haggle a bit on the price to allow me to still have money for a tune up and general service before i register the car.

whatever you decide, remember, it's swedish made!

Good cars. Timing belts are a must but easy to do.

Thanks for the input. It's one of those donation/auction deals so I can't do much checking out on it. I was going to try to see it today, but the bids are already nearing the low blue book price, with 3 days left, and that's all I'd consider for a car I'm taking a big chance on being good. So, they can have it.
But I am looking for a wagon/crossover/minivanish type vehicle for a super good deal for my daughter to drive to school, and us to haul the Greyhounds when needed. But it looks like what is going to happen is she will go back into the 4X4 LUV, and I will put an ugly ass shell on my blue LUV for the dogs.

As long as it is not the 6cyl diesel(VW) engine...Which it should not be, as those were older engines....

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.
