How cold was it when the problem happened? I have had my fuel pump freeze in sub-zero weather before, have always run gas line antifreeze during winter since then. You may have a little moisture in the fuel. The valve that pulls warm air into the air cleaner hasn't worked for years, when driving at highway speeds in cold, damp weather the lower carb body and the adjoining top of the intake manifld will sometimes form frost on the exterior, until I pull over, idle for a few minutes to let the under-hood temps come up and melt the frost it will cut out very badly. I am on my second parts store fuel pump, it works fine. Often when the pump goes bad you can hear it.
