It looks like im going to end up trading my bike for a nice 69 impala tomorrow, and from what it looks like, the engine is mostly complete but is missing an intake manifold, carb and distributor. im thinking that if it turns out to be the same amount, i will just end up doing a swap for something else.

the question is this:

for the sake of sheer curiosity, would a v6 be a good idea for a swap into this? i've never had a chance to drive a 70s v6, but i know some were made for GMC trucks and chevrolet trucks. Would it have enough power to move the car effectively or would it struggle?

it looks like it has a 350 in it, but really, i dont feel like driving another 350. (but i will if i have to)

The V6 from the old GMC trucks, you want to stay away from. Good engine, but lousy mileage! If you were looking at a truck that had the V6 in it, that would be OK, but IMO it's not a good choice to swap into something else.

X2, the 6 will be straining to pull that land yacht. The 350 will get at least as good, if not better mileage, and be able to keep up with the traffic...

yeah, i think i will end up sticking with the 350. its just one of those common engines that makes it easy to work on, and obtain parts, but i wanted to try something different.

That's the right choice, definitely stick with the 350 or bigger.

Those truck V6's are huge bore and quite powerful, but just odd motors. They are even heavier than a SBC. They are great in forklifts. Many from that late '60's- '70's have them.

well, with that being said, i was digging around the car last night and found the last emissions test they performed on it.

turns out the engine must have been burning ALOT of oil or something because the Co2 readings were almost DOUBLE the legal limit. right now the car could use some love in the electrical department also.

does anyone have a good running 350 that they want taken off their hands? i will drive for it if the price is right

ok, so disregard the last post,

i found out that the test papers was for a different engine.

i did a compression test last night and found that almost all the cylinders are around 150 psi. (i was expecting more like 75 or so)

since the motor is pretty much all there and just needing a few parts, should i bother messing with the cylinder heads and rebuilding them? my main concern are the valve stem seals. i can't really tell, but they look like i should probably change them out.

Suggestions?
