 Post subject: Nissan truck question

I have a 96 Hardbody Nissan SE Model. And the check engine light has stay on for over 9 years, I live in a state where emission testing has to be done. They will not test a vehicle if the that light is on due to liability reasons during the past when i had to get the truck inspected. I had Z-Codes cleared out of the computer to get it to pass. Upon using a scan tool it's showing an egr valve problem. My question is? How could it have a posible egr valve for over 9 years? Any suggestions? I need to get it to pass in order to get my plates. I have been told that it is a electric or vaccum problem. And my fiance does not know anything about Nissan's So, much help is needed.

It is possible on the Crappysan for sure. A stuck or clogged egr will not let it function, and a vacuum line could also be the culprit. I have the same issue on a Thunderbird...

Thank you so very much :). This is a problem that would be on going for 9 years? I am extremely fustrated because of the emisions testing. Otherwise I would put a peice of tape over the light and say screw it :lol:.
