Well, by the title, everybody knows that I've likely gotten in over my head...

So, my buddy and I have already torn into his afore mentioned Civic. 35 or so vaccuum lines and too much &$^%#! to put on one post, we've got the head off, the exhaust valve replaced, head surfaces cleaned, pistons de-carboned, everything labeled, Comb-chamb de-carboned, and every gasket above the head gasket replaced. I'll post pics of the whole mess in a bit...

But, we got to looking at it today, and thinking about how crappily his clutch has been doing lately... so, the clutch is getting replaced too. Now, it looks like it's gonna be easier to pull the block up and out than to drop the transaxle through the passerger side wheelwell. Anybody ever done this before?

yup thats the way I have done it.

the biggest problem with those car, was indeed the 50 billion miles of vaccum line. Usually the first part to quit, is the needle and seat in the carb.

lol, knew I wasn't the only totally insane person out there...

Well, I got to looking at it today, and it's going to be easier to drop the transaxle through the pass. side wheelwell. Crap.

Yeah, hearing ya on that one... talk about a difficult carb to service.

Thanks for the input. 8)

its hard to say anything helpful on those cars.......

after all the work I had put into geting one running really well.... it spit the harmonic balancer off! LOL

I donated the car to be bashed by a church fundraiser.

LOL.........good luck and may the force be with you!

A harmonic balancer going ka-whing? Yeouch!
Man, I wish I could hit this car with a hammer... That would make it all go away.

So, at this point in time, the front hubs are being disconnected so that we can leave the CV joints undisturbed. We've a big old transmission jack to drop the block and tranny onto after we get everything disconnected, and the clutch came in today.

Alright, so it's on the way back together today... we ended up replacing the rear main, so the whole engine had to come out. The bolts on the transmission are definitely a pain in the butt. lol, we messed up and dropped the engine/transmission, and it actually HELPED! lined all the bolts up for us.

So, right now the engine/tranny is bolted back in, and we're getting ready to put the head back on.

WAHOO!!!

because that would've made things about 20X more difficult. We still have the intake attached to the head, and bolting the tranny back on was hard even without the intake in the way.
lol, this engine is 90% intake. I'll take pics to explain.

Oh, and I don't have an engine hoist in the shop (there's a big one outside, but it's too big to fit inside) so we had to pick it up and put it in by hand.

Definitely would have put the head on if it had been my LUV... it isn't as in the way.
