I have no thermostat in my intake and I have heard Ineed to put a washer in to keep the water from flowing through so fast and not let it heat up as much through the engine. . has anyone ever heard of this. Supposed to keep it in the radiator longer. :?: :econfused
Got my alternator mounted. Now all I need to do is see how it works, take everything back apart and paint it and putit back together. Then on to something else like wire running etc and start on the priming again. Hopefully I'll get the doors and fenders put back on soon.

I just gut the center out of an old thermostat. I try it without one first though, to see if it's necessary...

It is a old school thing. It is to restrict water flow. as mytmouz says you can try that. but watch your temperature.

Water flows to fast without at least a restricter and i strongly advise a t-stat to keep motor at even temp.

In addition to water flow speed, you need to have the restrictor or T stadt to build pressure to help with cooling.

just use a regular 160 Tstat, and drill 2 1/4 holes in it.

Do not use a 160*. Use a 190*. Engine will make more power. On all of our race engines we try to maintain 190 - 200*. This has also been evident on the dynos, engine and chassis. Also ideal oil temp is in the 200 -220* range.
Drilling the holes will help if the stadt should fail to open.
