I am working on my brothers 95 suburban for him and can't figure it out.. When warmed up about 35 40 minutes into a drive and 70 mph it starts cutting out sputtering and back firing when trying to accelerate. I've done research online and come up with the same questions but no answers.. New plugs and wires and coolant temp sensor. Problem started after a transmission replacement. Any help, suggestions or advice woould be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance,Darrell

Check or replace the cap and rotor-Check fuel filter-check fuel pump could be getting hot and dropping pressure

Just changed the filter. Fixing to check cap and rotor, which were bought the same time as the plugs and wires, less than 500 miles on them. hoping its not the pump its a pain to change and $96.00. Thanks for the reply.

Just another thought. Try leaving the fuel fill cap loose and see if that make a difference,if it dose then the charcoal evap canister is probably plugged and needs replaced.

Also if you can check the fuel pressure at the schrader valve do this both when cold and after driving for the time that the problems start. Some shops(dealers)may have a fuel pressure tester that you can monitor while driving.

Not sure about that old of a model but the newer models say '00 and up have a fuel pump problem. From what I understand they will make a whinning sound before they go.

replace the module in the distributor or check to make sure the grease thats on the back hasnt allowed it to corrode. This is usually how they act when they start getting hot from corrosion.

It could be a problem with the fuel pump, which would be my guess. But it also could be something with the pistons, but its not very likely. :smt079

The fuel pressure regulator comes to mind.

Fuel, air and spark. I would guess fuel related too.
