I'm not very familiar with noises and what they mean when it comes to cars. I'm the kinda guy that once the problem is known, I go and fix it. I can't really find out what the problem is. My girlfriend has a 1995 Chevy Monte Carlo Z34, with 120,000 miles. About 6 months ago it started running rough when the engine was cold. i just assumed it was the cold weather, because at the time it was about 20 degrees out, very unusually cold. But now that the weather is warmer, it still does it. When she starts it it immediately goes up to 3.5k rpms, and holds for 5 seconds then goes down to 1k then back up to 3.5k, and does this for a good minute or so alternating from 1k to 3.5k. Every time it switches I can here a click. And after the car is warmed up it still does, but to a much less severe degree. It will bobble between 700 and 900 rpm at an idle. But when you accelerate it seems just fine. What could this be?

Could be throttle position sensor or coolant temperture sensor for the computer.
