I need to squeeze blood out of a stone......

In a recent auto deal I acquired a hobby style circle track race car.
It is a late 70's Celica with the 20R engine.
The rules for the class say that the engine is to remain stock, including air-filter and carb.
Anyways,I don't know a thing about Toyotas and am wondering if anyone out there could give me some pointers on how to get the most out of this engine(without any Obvious alterations  )
It has the original 5 speed tranny, and I am working on possible gear combos at this time.

I also have a spare running 20R to play with..... :D

Any and all help would be appreciated cause I have a bad need to whip up on some Ford 2300 a$$!!!!!
