Can anyone tell me if Dodge put a 318 (5.2L) in the Dakota in 2000. Thanks.

It will fit. My dad and brother both have Dakota's so I've turned a few wrenches on them. I think Dodge was putting 318's in them for a while. Maybe they still are. The 318 will bolt up the the tranny if yours has the big V-6 in it. 4.1L I think is what it is. Essentially a 318 with two cylinders "chopped off". I'm not sure about Radiator clearance or if you'll have to move motor supports on the frame or not. Good luck.

I am pretty sure moms truck already has the 318 in it. I was just wondering what tranny bolts to it so I can start looking for it.

theres a 3.9 that was made for years, even in a carbe, now its a 3.7 V-6 making 200ish hp
the 4.7 V-8 replases the 5.2, 318cc
the 5.7 HEM V-8 replases the 5.9, 360cc

my 0.01
the 318 EFI is a good engine, that can get fare mpg, around 17-20
a little more with a manual trans, but ill bet there all auto trans

OH ive seen newer and older 4 bangers to, but all newer ones are 4x2 short bed

this may help you

Find a Donor truck if you can. It will save you from having to find all the little parts as you go. Sell the rest off when your are through.

Thank you to every one that tried to help as it turns out the truck was a 97 and now it is wedged long ways between a power pole and a really big tree. So now I looking for another truck. Kinda a bad subject right now. If anyone hears about a cheap truck for sale in southern California please let me know. Thanks Again.
