 Post subject: Fuel Problems

Ok well i have a 1980 model its been in the family for a few years now but was parked for quite a while ive done most of the work myself but im having some trouble when it comes to fuel.... ive replaced all the rubber lines and im almost positive my metal ones are in tact im gettin it all the way to the carb but i think i could be getting more then what i am....anyways it dont seem to be goin into the carb any ways is there any home remedys to this problem with out a rebuild or a completely take down to clean it?

did you check the filter screen on the inlet of the carb? take it off and check to make sure it is not gumed up

Well i can put my line down in a bottle and it will run just as smooth as ever... ive checked its pullin fuel outa the tank it just dont make sense to me!!!!!

you said its not going in to the carb from the tank "it dont seem to be going into the carb any ways"
but if you pull the rubber hose from the metal fuel line and put some gas in the bottle and gravity feed the carb it runs great? is that right… have you tried to se what the fuel pressure is at the carb from the tank?, kinked hose some where? No fuel on the ground anywhere?

Well theres none on the ground... and like i said it dont make sense when its in the bottle it will run but when it aint it dont even seam like its goin into the carb... ive pulled the line i know that its at least to it

The fitting on the carb has a filter in it check it then check and make sure the float valve is free and not stuck.

Oh and the filter on the carb is a screen and can be cleaned.

that was my first thought but he said it runs fine gravity feed from a bottle? so i am stumped

Ok well ill try that tomarrow umm any ideas on why my fuel pump is not kicking off it dont seam to be building up enough pressusre(note: its brand new)

its not backwards is it... i knew a guy the installed one and couldn’t figure out why it didn’t run, come to find out it was in backwards

if you can check the pressure and its low i would take it back and get another one... you should be around 6 to 9 psi if I remember right

Well to be honest i think it might just be some loose ends in the lines where it might be sucking air but ill get back to ya on that i just still cant figure out why it will run off the bottle

Check between the pump and the tank as a vac.leak is harder to detect and will not show and signs of leaking. Vac. will leak easier than pressure will leak.

That makes alot of since id say that had to do with why it would run off the bottle
