I tried to bolt my new Victor Jr on today with complete failure. For some reason I have not yet encountered until today the manifold will not completely seal to the heads. I did torque the bolts to the proper torque specified in the correct sequence. For some reason I didnt feel right about the whole deal so I took a .010 feeler guage and slipped it in between the head and the gasket with out much resistance. What did I do wrong?

OK, then let's go another route. When you did the feeler gauge thing, is this between the manifold to head gaskets, or the end seals? Are you using end seals? When you had the intake off, did any of the head gasket material stick out?

I didnt use the end seals I used Right stuff. The feeler gauge was inserted between the head and the intake gasket where the intake port on the head meets the intake port on the manifold. This is a new motor everything on it has never been on it before and everything I saw before trying to install the intake appeared to be normal. I have installed a few manifolds and never have had a problem until today. The thing that bothers me is my machinest made a comment about my heads being milled a lot for compression. So I am wondering if that has caused a geometry issue.

Yepper, that will do it. You can have the intake milled to match the new angle of the heads. This is fairly common when the heads have been milled.

So that means I am going to have to load up my motor and take it to the machine shop again so they can cut the intake to the right angle?

Nah, you can remove the gaskets, and set the intake in place. Then, take your feeler gauge and get a measurement at the top and bottom of the mating surfaces and give those to the machinist you use. If you have a buddy with access to a mill, they can do it.

I wish I did know someone that had a milling machine and was actually competent enough to use it. I figure I will call the machine shop tomorrow and ask him how he wants to go about it. The bad part is I work out of town during the week when he is open and getting home early enough to get it over to him is easier said then done. Hopefully he will give me an easy answer and be doing race car motors on saturday like he was this weekend.
