I've done very little on the Luv recently. I've been really concerned about my job, it's looking like the factory may close in the next month or two... :(

Anyway, my neighbor lady had this at her perpetual garage sale, picked it up for $50...

Enjoy!

Grandmaster of the "Shade Tree" way.. I can't see the yard for all the cars. Come on down and we will sit on the porch and watch the grass grow.

I think it's registered as a moped. Truly, it's a no-ped as there are no pedals. Pretty basic 49cc Yamaha 2 stroke. I like the shaft drive, which is why I picked it up. Good for maybe 30-35mph tops and about 100-150mpg.

I know some of you guys have kids with motorcross bikes, the engine/driveline in this are the same as a PW50. Only difference being the Yamahopper has a different final drive ratio.

That's a pretty sweet deal for $50.00! That should keep you busy for a while and help keep your mind off your troubles.

I wonder if it is street legal? I know I used to have a couple of pocket bikes that are now illegal to ride on any public property. Since they didn't come with a title or a VIN # - they couldn't be registered as a motor vehicle in washington state. When they outlawed them here from being ridden on the road, public parks and recreation areas, or even the sidewalk - I sold them quickly to keep my own butt outa trouble. But if it has a VIN #, a title, and comes with a registration - you should be OK.

I've been thinking about getting a moped to put on the back of my motorhome. You're lucky I don't live close to you and saw that before you did. I would have snagged it.

J/K...lol

Learned quite a bit more about this little pile since I bought it. I know a lot of you are into dirt bikes/quads, and this scooter uses the same engine and driveline as the very popular Yamaha PW50 (PeeWee 50). Also the old YT60 3 wheeler uses the same case design and an additional 10cc's can be had just by swapping the piston, jug and head.

I got the piston free from the cylinder, and I think I'm just going to put rings in it. It was stuck, but not scored and the skirt looks fine. I haven't cleaned the jug up yet, but if I told you it had a stuck cylinder in it, you'd be hard pressed to see where. The fuel petcock on my tank was shut when I bought the bike, so the carb is amazingly clean, I don't think I'll even tear it down, 'prolly just blow it out with some air and carb cleaner and see what I get...

Hoping to tinker a bit tomorrow on this, but I've got a mixture control solenoid to install on the Olds, a crank pulley to install on the Saab, and a huge pile of stuff that is my Luv project...

That second pic is a Honda ATC 185S not a Yamaha.

Can't kill a good design I guess. Looks like the enduro was the predecessor to the PW50. The newer stuff is shaft drive, no one wants to maintain a 'kids' bike...lol...

I'm ordering rings and wrist pin circlips today. Hope to have it back together this next week...

Still working on this pile. Tore it down pretty good, spent hours and hours cleaning off overspray. Overhauled the top end and finally got it mostly back together yesterday. Hung everything back together enough to try to kick it over, and of course, no spark. Did some tests from the manual, and it looks like the coil is shot, and the mag is shorted out (it's ruuuuuusty inside).

I don't have a flywheel puller for this thing, and I'm really not too excited to spend any money on it. Ideas for pulling the flywheel? Gear puller? Rent one?

Here's updated comparison pics...

Weather is so nice, I have to get the rest of my house projects done, so it's going to sit for a bit. I realized that my previous post on this was the day after I got laid off. Still unemployed and it's starting to get old..lol..
