ok here comes about the most retarted question you have ever heard
Well i have a Dodge ram 50 4x2 and it hesitates bad and i am told it is some kind of pump thing in the carb, so my question is.... i have a stock GM carb from a sbc thats in pretty good condition, will it fit, and will it work ok?
or will it pump out way too much gas? and if it does, cant i jus set the idle jet down and it will be ok???

please help me :eugeek

Is this the small D50? If so it's built by Mitsubishi. If it's the big ram truck and has the slant 6 it has a one or 2 barrel Carb. If it's the v8 version, it has a larger 2bbl or a 4bbl Carter. So, which one do you have?

Your gm carb most likely will not bolt up...

Nope,not even close.
Does your carb look like this?

The Mikuni carbs have about the same problems as the Hitachis.
Probably the accelerator pump.
Your best bet is of course,a Weber.

I had a Weber on a Mitsubishi 2.0 at one time and it ran great.
It was a circle-burner and I did not have to worry about emissions either.
I have no idea what model it was.

Look up the Weber site or a speed shop site and see if a kit is available for it.

I would go the same route as with the LUV trucks.
Get a Weber off of e-bay used, rebuild it.
The adapter plate will be different, but is available I'm sure.
I'm not sure about the linkage as the Weber was already on the engine when I got it.
I do remember switching from the Weber to a stock carb was no problem though, keep in mind this was on a race car and I didn't have to worry about the vacuum lines so much.

Picking up a used weber and a rebuild kit on ebay, then hunting around for the cheap adapter plate you can find is the right way to go - for sure. For what you would be expected to pay for a brand spankin' new carb with the adapter plate and gaskets all in a kit - you could probably buy 2 or 3 of everything...lol

You basically have two choices of decent carbs - the weber 32/36 or the weber 38/38. The 32/36 IMHO would probably give you great gas mileage but not as great performance as the 38/38. The 38/38 will give you great performance, the air/fuel mixture can be adjusted better than the 32/36, the 38/38s have mechanical secondaries that can be adjusted (if you want to - if not just leave them in the stock setting), and the difference in gas mileage between the two carbs IMHO is not really worth mentioning.

Since your engine is a 2.0, it should handle the 38/38 fine, and it will do OK with the 32/36 but IMHO it would be a bit under-carbed and slow off the line.

The last time I looked for used weber carbs on ebay (for a friend of mine that was at work at the time with no internet access) recently, the used weber 38/38 carbs were actually a bit cheaper than the used weber 32/36's were. And so were the 38/38 rebuild kits. This is probably due to the fact that the 38/38s aren't as common or as popular as the 32/36s are - but IMHO the 38/38s are a way better carb. Both carbs have identical bolt patterns, so they both use the exact same adapter to bolt on to your intake.

It's your truck - so you get to choose...lol

(BTW...don't get me started on Mikuni's POS PITA carbs. Those things were a freakin' nightmare to tinker on and try to get adjusted right as they got older and got more worn out...lol)

There are a few other engines that will fit, but you wont notice any difference in power. If you want more power then look for a truck with a V-8 or something like that. Sounds like you want to re-invent the wheel. I have a LUV with a V-8 and a V-6 but I did the swap for fun. I do drive a D-50 with a 2.0 as a daily driver when I am not in my duelly.

Different motors and the heads will not interchange. Like I said a well running 2.0 runs plenty strong, I can hit 100 MPH all day, what more do you want?
