On my brothers 87 Toyota truck, the Tachometer stopped working. What are some of the things we can check to see why it is not working? I've heard aftermarketTach's connect to the coil.

Thanks! 8)

what side of the coil did you hook it up to? If Im not mistaken if you hook it up to the positive side it should fry. Its been a while since I have had anything with an external coil but if I remember correctly you should hook what ever color wire the instructions say to the negative terminal of the coil.

Actually, it's the stock Tach. Do you know where it hooks up to?

I would imagine it probably hooks up to the negative side of the coil. I dont know anything about toyotas tho. I cant remember the name of the website but there is a good toyota forum out there I saw a while back.

Looks like one of the fuses is blowing, the tach starts to work again, but blows afterward

sounds like a short somewhere. I would trace all the wires making sure there isnt any bad spots in the insulation that could be rubbing on something causing it to ground out.
