Hi, hopefully someone can help. Ive got 1980 Chevy Luv that starts but as soon as i let go of ignition switch, it dies and turns off. so far Ive replaced the Fuel Pump,spark plugs,distributer cap, rotor and wires. Not sure where to go next? Can someone please help? Thanx

Have you had the wires off the switch or starter, There is a run wire that needs to be hooked up on the switch to maintain power. One that engages the starter and another to provide power in the run position.
Could also be a bad switch. Not sure but it might go to the coil to provide spark to the distributor. Had a 68 pickup I reversed wires on once on the switch and had the same problem.
Just a thought.

No, i never even have touched the starter before but i will try your suggestion.

on the right hand fender there is a porcelain resistor (dog bone) chances are a wire fell off somehow.It still gets the 12v on the start circuit,but the 9v side it runs on is probably unhooked

Check the ignition switch with a 12v tester, make sure when the key is "on" it maintains 12v. Had the same problem with my boat and a new ignition switch fixed the problem. :D
