I had a Vega mail wagon (panels instead of rear side windows and no back seat) for about a week.
It had a 283 and Muncie 4 speed in it. I traded my 75 El Camino for it, but found out quickly it was a hack job. I traded back. The guy wouldn't do it at first and then my Dad leaned on the guy a little bit, reminding him that he traded with a 17 y. o. I was not an adult yet. Don't know if it mattered, but it scared this guy into trading back.

Yea. I knew what I had was rare, but this was in 83 and I was a kid. I was all excited about a V8 Vega (really wanted a V8 LUV but found this) but my friends that still had level headed thinking pointed out to me that it was a pretty bad hack job and would have needed a lot of work soon.
Today, that would not be a problem, but back then it was.

Vega's are a sore subject with me, dad bought a new silver vega wagon that we vacationed all over the west in till about 76. The sore part (beside being cramped in it) was he traded in a 71 Roadrunner for it!!!! 8O I still give him crap to this day for that move.

Just to add a footnote to this thread, I've owned a couple of V8 Vegas and they were fun as hell to drive on the street (except when it rained...lol), and as a tribute to another misunderstood Chevy small vehicle, I just put Vega tail lights in my roll pan on my '78 Luv stepside.

I wouldn't mind getting my hands on another Vega just to tinker on, but sadly, all of them around here are complete rust buckets.

I almost bought a nice one about 5 years ago that had a straight 6 cylinder and a 4 speed out of an older wrecked Camaro in it, but I took too long to get my butt in gear with the cash and it got sold to someone else.
