Well, i've been driving my GF's little 82 rampage for a while and the shiftin' is kinda getting on my nerves, the linkage seems a bit worn and sloppy cause 1st n' 3rd feel like they're right ontop of each other. That and first is a devil to get into and second grinds a bit if you downshift (as if you were coming to a slow curve and you wanted to go around it in second).

So, are there any grease fittings or something on the linkage and what wheight of oil would the trans take?

Looked under it today and can't find a fill plug for the trans.. yet....

figured out were a bit of the slop is, all i need is a semi-thick rubber washer to go on a end of a peice of linkage underneath, haven't taken the boot off the shifter and checked around in there yet.

Found an oil leak though, it's the fuel pump gasket... sonofab... so i'll tackle that saturday i geuss too.

And it's only got 58k on it... imagine that... i need to get an belt for the AC too... and a manual... oh lord... the stuff we do for women eh?

well her dad already had a shop manual, so i geuss that can go with all the other "bibles" we have (chiltons is NIV....)

put the belt on, AC works, fixed abad ground on it b4 it'd kick on, either i need a new tensioner for it... or i need to find a better 3/8" breaker bar... it's a rusty bracket so it Was kinda fragile when i tried turning it...

tackling the fuel pump today

Try this one(somebody is going to go WTF) Drain the trans and fill it with Belray 80/90 motorcycle oil,it will shift allot better and last longer. I have used this oil for years in 4&5sp trans, in fact i have it in the 4sp trans in my LUV, it works. 8) 8) 8)

it uses Dex. II ATF, not regular oil, and i need a diff. cover gasket so i can drain it out to change it.

BTW, didn't get anything done, went to a dep meeting for the navy that morning and got lost getting there, then pretty much was exhausted when i got to the dealership to work on it. Once i got there i removed the oil filter so i could get to the fuel pump, got one bolt out, but the other one was in a spot so that even though you can see it... you can't get a socket on it or a wrench, you'd have to take the alt. out. And it needs a fuel pump, the little "weep hole" seeped out oil, so i pushed a dab of silicone in it so it wouldn't leak to badly. So i try again to tighten the tensioner on the AC, nope, and advance auto don't have em', so, i'm going to try taking the bracket off and take a bolt and put it in the hole the ratchet goes in, and just weld it in, so i can use two ratchets to adj. the pully.

And to top it all off... her pwr. steering pump leaks... bad, it can be parked and it'll just drip, she barely had fluid touching the resviour stick when i filled it.

But the best part is that I found out one of our service writers was a master tech. for dodge and said he used to rebuild those 2.2's all the time, he showed me a bunch of stuff to watch for, like timing belt, carburator base gasket... bunch of stuffs....

Those 2.2s are not a bad engine they got a bad rap from people who think you don't have to take care of them. The Belray oil work perfect in gear boxs that use ATF.Even though it is rated at 80/90 it is about the same consistantcy as ATF go to your local motorcycle shop and check it out you will be impressed.By the way one of the best things about the 2.2s&2.5s is if the timing belt breaks (nobody ever services them) you just put another one on and drive off. Cars are like girl friends if you don't pay attention and take care of them they will quit and leave you wondering what happened

Talked to that master tech. guy at work and he said to use the ATF, he said he's not certain what that oil would do to that sort of trans.

The Belray oil will not hurt your trans at all, infact it wii make it better, i have used it in a lot of trans with only good results ( it's the only thing that helps T-5 trans live longer and they use ATF) :)
