Hey,
I have a 90' Chevy 3/4 ton converson Van, 350 with A/C. The wife drove it to the store today, and the freakin tention arm for the serpentine belt broke in half! Dropped the pulley, and serp belt out on the ground!

My question is, WTF would cause this to break???? Is this normal????

New one's $50.00! 8O Oh yea, and now I gotta go tear the front of the VAN APPART!!!!!!

Robble, Robble, Robble...........

Yea, unfortunately, tension pulleys do sometimes fatigue and brake.

And Chevy vans SUCK to work on. My parents had a 77 and later a 89/90??

Them spark plugs are HARD to get to. :x

Hell, plugs is EZ, at least they are now anyway...... I've done'em enough! :?

Just got the broken arm off, can't find anything wrong, all the pulleys (sp?) turn EZ, and none have any sloppy bearings....

Oh well, at least it didn't happen on the way to Portland!

Me too. A yeare ago Xmas eve, We were in my Ford on the way up North and with the defroster on. The a/c siezed up , but before I knew it, the belt trashed.
In a normal set up. I could have just eliminated the a/c belt and kept going. But with a serpintine belt it was overheated getting off the freeway to a motel, 2 rooms (4 kids) taxi ride on xmas morn. rental car on xmas morn. Basically a very expensive trip. At least it was only a mile from the motel to a Ford dealer in Roseville, so I was able to drive it. It has been the only time that truck has ever stranded me, but even then it should not have happened. :x

Because no an a/c unit, I had no power steering, brakes, water pump. alternator, fan, vacuum pump (diesel). :x :x
