I just got an Edlebrock RPM cam kit just wondering if anyone out there is using one and if they like it and also wondering how the thing is going to idle.

I saw on your other thread that you were using a tunnel ram. The cam will idle pretty well with a regular style intake. The tunnel ram will affect the idle quality somewhat. The carb tuning will be somewhat finicky. Post some more info on the intake and someone on here should be able to help you out. The camshaft is designed more for low end torque, while tunnel rams tend to be more for the upper rpm level. Just something to think about.

There is a guy here where I live that grinds cams and he said it should work pretty well with the tunnel ram. Maybe by this weekend my questions will be answered Im right in the middle of putting it back together.

That cam should work with your tunnel ram if you are using 450-500 carbs any thing bigger will still work but will be a turd on the street and not much better racing unless you have a good set of heads. If it was not so much money i think that a pair of holley 390's side way's would make a beautiful set up as the intake velocity would be high making throttle response perfect for the street and still look bad ass.

I have 2 holley 450 cfm 4150s with mechanical secondaries. The heads have 2.02/1.60 valves casting # 3978487X.

I don't see any problems here good heads, cam, not over carbed, how is the compression? In a heavy car it might be a little slugish on the lower rpm's but in a light car it would be Great and then there is the gearing to deal with but i would say that your combo. should work out to be on the high side of the fun meter. 8)

As far as gearing goes Im not too concerned the gears that are in it now are 4.37s and as soon as I get around to building my other rear it will have 4.10s. I was hoping to have it running by tonight but I got side tracked today and I have a sore back and a head ache that is so bad I cant see strait. If I get to where I feel a little better in while I am going to go back out in the garage and try to atleast get the intake manifold back on it.

Finally got the thing to run not a 100% dialed in yet but to the point that it will idle. I fired it off today to make sure the distributor is in right and shut it down I decided to add an electric fan I just got the mounts for that fabbed up and now its wiring time. Hopefully I will can get the cam broke in sometime this week.

I tried to break the cam in today and failed at that. I got it up and running at 2000 RPM just like break in instrucions call for and after about a minute it bogged down for about a second or 2 allmost to an idle and then it shot back up again to about 2000 RPM and then about 30 seconds later or so it did the same thing again and died. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have a fuel press. gauge? Recheckand make sure you have no vac. leaks. Are the carbs in good shape(new or rebuilt)But it sounds like you could be loosing fuel.

I have a pressure guage mounted on the distribution block but I cant see it from the driver seat. I was a little bit hesitant about running the motor since I just put it back together and not being about to see the other guages. The carbs and tunnel ram were ordered brand new from summit they dont have more than a half hour of running time on them. as far as vacuume leaks I dont have too many places for leaks unless there is a gasket leaking but I dont think that is the case. I also ordered a new fuel pump and regulator from summit when I ordered the ram and carbs I just havent installed them yet so its possible the pump I have on my truck isnt keeping up. When I did drive the truck a few months ago I didnt have this problem so thats why I am a little confused.

If you can set the fuel press. gauge where you can see it then start the trk. and see if you loose press. witch in turn means not enough fuel.Another quick check start the motor and if it dies turn it off and check carbs for fuel. You didn't say what kind of fuel pump you have on the trk now as well as filter it would be best to be able to look at the press. gauge though.

I'm pretty sure the fuel pump went bad in the middle of breaking in the cam. I dont know what kind of pump was on there it was old probably the stocker. I ordered a summit pump and regulator kit about a year ago and never got around to getting it installed. I redid the fuel system before I tore into it I turned the old pump on and looked at the fuel gauge with out out the motor running and it was only getting about 2 psi of fuel. I got all the new stuff in place and the regulator started leaking at the gasket I haven't had a chance to do anything with it yet but I'm sure the old pump was the problem.

Yeah I was definately planning on changing oil and filter before it hits the street. I still have to stop the leak at the pressure regulator but havent had a chance to get to that yet so with a 3 day weekend hopefully I will get a chance.
