ok this is a question not about a luv but a 1962 chevy pick up. Its got a 350 in it but when they where towing it they burnt up the tranny (big fire) and im just trying to find out what is the best kind of automatic tranny to put in there...its for my gfs sister. I personally wouldnt put in an automatic but ya know...anyways i appreciate the help thanks

well it depends if you need over drive or not. And if its 3/4or1ton or 1/2ton. If you dont need OD and its a 1/2ton then a th350 would be easy to get and do just fine, if its 1ton or 3/4ton then a th400 will do. One of these would be the tranny that was original in it. Of course if you need OD then a 700r4 wouldnt be too hard a swap but they arent the strongest.
Oh and a 5speed auto would be realy expensive, GM just started making em for the Vette and such...

Try an automatic out of a later model GM drivetrain Class A motorhome. I believe its a 4L80E and theres a couple of other ones like it. basically a beefed up 700R4 (4L60E)

If its a light duty truck that never tows or hauls anything I would go with a 200 4R. I had one in my elcamino worked great and if I kept my foot out of it I could get around 19 MPG.
