I am almost too embarresed to ask this. But on my 94 S10, the volt guage on the dash is barely reading above the red (about 10). It goes from 9 to 19 volts with 14 being the normal reading. So does that mean my battery is crapping out of my alternator??? Been so long since I have had any sort of electrical problem that was on a vehicle besides my LUV  My battery right???

yah it sounds like alternator problem cause it should be at 13-14 volts to charge battery or it could be a wire too the battery from alternator mine was a light gauge wire before u want a lower gauge wire for that so it could be a burnt out wire just have to inspect with a volt meter

hope that helps u

I would suspect the alternater first, that is what the volt gauge is reading. Pull the alternater off and have checked out.

I had the same situation with my 92 C-1500. Go get the alt tested at your local parts store. It doesn't cost anything to find out if it's good or not. Mine was producing less than 3 volts. It was causing all kinds of funny things with the electrics of the truck but once i got it replaced, everything was just fine.

Well thanks for the replies, kind of what I was thinking but was hoping it was the battery as I want to get a red top Ultima for it (and it matches the truck!! :P ) But figured it was the alternator as GM builds some finest alternators. NOT!! This will be the third one on the truck as the first on crapped out at 28000 miles. The main prob with it is, it is a B*TCH to change on that motor, too much crap in the way and I had to bend something last time so I didnt have to disassmeble half the motor to get it off!! Anyway thanks all. Todd
