They really don't look a whole lot different from a LUV. However, the LUV has an "angled back" style cab, which to me just looks sweet! 8)

I think the early ford couriers were made by Datsun, and then got moved over to some other company. I know they (couriers) had some of the early rotary engines in them.

yeah, i dont think they were made by dahtsun. they were mad by mazda. mazda is who makes the wankel (rotary) engine. i think dahtsun has been out of business for like 20 years.

Datsun isn't out of business... Just changed to Nissan. Had a 79 Datsun, my first vehicle. Made by the Nissan motor company. They changed to Nissan in the early 80's.

The reason they were called Datsun was because it was Nissan's way of entering in the American Market, and if it did bad, the Nissan name would not be impacted, so when it went live and they had a market, they chaned the name in the US.

But there are Datsun trucks out there with Rotary engines in them that are not made by Mazda. Those were the ones with the turn signals mounted on the top of the fenders, not integrated in with the front grill areas.

The Rotary Engine is manufactured in Japan by many companies. I like the Idea cause they look like (The engineer in me saying this) they can be converted over to a non-liquid gas form of fuel type easier than the piston engines.

i love how rotaries only have 3 main parts, instead of a piston engine having 40 or so. only problem is that they lack torque, and those little apex seals are kinda delicate. plus they run rich, because they have oil injection

i like the idea of being able to rev to 12,000 without damaging my engine though :D

and by the way, chevy also made a few rotaries, they put them in a few prototype corvettes in the 60s i believe

They are great engines. You can have them running rich, but you can also have them run no so rich too bu converting it to a hydrogen based model. It truely is one of the marvels of science 8-)

about 10 years ago my dad bought a orange 70's model courier for $200. then a lady backed into the passenger door, and he got $300 for insurance. he never fixed it though and wound up selling it for $400
