I`m trying to figure out what motor the motor home i just purchased has in it. the guy I purchased it from thought it was a 390 but it`s not i know what those look like. i think it`s possibly one of the 351`s. is there an easy way to id what motor it is. keep in mind it`s buried in a motorhome. so i`m hoping for some type of external id tips. thanks

I may be able to help if i had more info to go by as i have had alot of ford cars and trucks.

So on your motor-home...is it a class 1 (like a big Winnebago)
class 2 (with ford van type nose)

I have had a couple of those Ford motor-homes myself, one was a 1968, it had a 302.The other was 70 something and had 351 windsor.
I am almost ready to bet yours is one of those two engines. I have never seen a ford MH w a 390.
There is also the poss of yours being 351-400m (if 70s model)

With more info from you i could help more,as i am able to de-code most ford VIN numbers.Hope I can be of some help here. 8)

its a class c 79. i think i `ve got it narrowed down to beng a 351 or 400. I know it`s not a 302. it doesn`t have a ford vin number, alot of these m.h. came with a vin from the company that did the conversion . but while i was at the local parts store i took a glance in the fram catalouge. for 79 f 350 it listed for motors 302,351,400,and 460. since i know it`s not the 302 or 460. that leaves the 351w,351m or the 400. from what i`ve read so far it`s probably the 351m or 400. the only differance between those 2 motors is the crank and the pistons.

as is the only differance between the 351w and the302 ...the 351w having a slightly higher deck height. visually they look the same. So does the 351m / 400 visually the same.... some even had both ID #'s on them like this 351M/400...on the valve covers..

well i guess that narrows it down to the 351m/400 then. the intake is different than a 302. I guess i will buy parts for the 351m and give it a shot thanks.
